NEWTH, Bryan. Formerly of Coalpit Heath. Passed away peacefully at Gloucester Royal Hospital on December 26, 2005, aged 87 years. Dearly loved Father of Dianne. Funeral to take place at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Tetbury on Wednesday January 4 at 12 noon. Donations if desired to the Alzheimers Society.

2 (06/23/12) NEWTH, Gordon E., 95, died June 21, 2012 at a hospital in Virginia.
Mr. Newth, a lifelong New Englander and Mayflower descendent, was born in Lynn, MA and later resided in Rumford and Warwick, RI. At the outbreak of WWII, Mr. Newth volunteered for duty and was assigned to the 7th Armored Division. He served with the ?Lucky 7th? from Normandy to the end of the war, driving his tank into the Baltic Sea. He was wounded in Holland for which he received the Purple Heart.
After his discharge, Mr. Newth joined the East Providence Police Department serving until his retirement in 1972. Mr. Newth was active in founding the department?s first Juvenile Division. His interest in helping young people in trouble lasted throughout his career in law enforcement. He served on numerous panels and committees focused on preventing juvenile crime. He was President of the Juvenile Correctional and Law Enforcement Agencies of RI and a delegate to President Eisenhower?s White House Conference on Children and Youth.
Mr. Newth was a founding member of the East Providence Police Beneficial Association and served on its Board of Directors. He was a member of RI Lodge Fraternal Order of Police and served on its Board of Trustees. He was also a founding member of East Providence Lodge #1.
After retiring from the East Providence Police Department, Mr. Newth started his own company, Newth Delivery Services under contract to United Airlines.
Mr. Newth was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Delia, his son, Dennis R. Newth and his daughter, Colleen P. Newth.
He is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann Sell (Jim) of McLean, Virginia; his daughter-in-law, Dr. Francine Newth of Cranston; his grandsons, Sean Newth (Kate) of Hingham, MA and Terrance Newth (Sheila) of Newton, MA; and three great-granddaughters, Lauren, Caroline and Ava.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10 am in the JAMES J. GALLOGLY & SONS Funeral Home, 671 Broad St., Providence. Burial with military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newth Family Endowment at St. Mary Academy -Bay View (Riverside, RI).
